Bergenfield today is a diverse community comprised of peoples of all race, religions and creeds...a community of hard-working middle class people who are very interested and involved in their community.  Residents can avail themselves of the many activities taking place in the community.

     In the Fall, on a Saturday afternoon, residents can enjoy the High School Football Game, with the teams, cheerleaders, and fans proudly wearing the red and black school colors.  And at half time, you can be treated to the performance of the award-winning Bergenfield Marching Band.  It's truly a nice way to spend a sunny autumn day.

     Also in the Fall and early Winter, many of the local churches and temples hold their bazaars with handmade items, baked goods, bric-a-brac and so on.

     At the Holiday Season, the Bergenfield High School Orchestra and Chorus present a gala Holiday Show at the school.   On a Saturday in December, the Public Works employees invite all community children to visit Santa at the Coopers Pond Park shelter house and on a wintery Sunday evening, the community gathers for Christmas Caroling at the Park.
 
     Our Memorial Day Parade is one of the best in the area and people come from near and far to enjoy it.  There are floats, antique cars, the Sheriff's Department Mounted Division, Bagpipers, Bands, etc.   And in March, the Bergen County Irish Association sponsors the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade through the town, finishing up at St. John's R. C. Church.  Also in the spring, the Pops Concert at the high school is as entertaining as a Broadway Show.

     During the Summer, the Recreation Department sponsors the Summer Concert Series including a Barbershop Chorus, pops orchestra, bluegrass and 'a cappella' music at our picturesque Cooper's Pond Park, a Fishing Contest for kids, tennis clinics, athletic clinics for students in basketball and weightlifting, softball and baseball leagues at designated parks and schools.  Our Council for the Arts sponsors art and craft shows, dance, theatrical and musical presentations.

     The Chamber of Commerce sponsors two street fairs; the Sidewalk Sale in July and the International Street Festival in October.  The main business district will be closed to traffic on those two days.

     If you're a BINGO aficionado, St. John's Church sponsors a Bingo night on every Wednesday and Sunday evening.  Also, many organizations sponsor dances at St. John's Conlon Hall, and if you like the 50s, watch your local paper for the up and coming ones.

     Sometimes we long-time residents yearn for those days when we would go berry-picking in nearby fields, enjoy fireworks or watch the annual Christmas tree bonfire where the High School now stands, but we have still remained a community where young families raise their children and seniors stay when they retire, a community where people make friendships to last a lifetime.  Make the most of your time with us, get involved in our community -- join our many civic and fraternal organizations, attend our town sponsored events, volunteer for the Fire Department, Ambulance Corps or Police Auxiliary, pick up the monthly calendar from our busy Free Public Library, attend our Mayor & Council's meetings, and keep our town beautiful by maintaining your dwelling and grounds.
